Remove Food Coloring from Skin

Posted

It can be a frustrating experience if you accidentaly spill even a small amount of food coloring on your skin. The porous nature of skin layers quickly absorbs the color and attempts to immediatly wash the stain off with soap and water are ineffetive. The good news is that even if you do not have the necessesary items to quickly remove the stain, it will fade away within 24 to 36 hours. Most people do not wish to wait it out, and the following will help expedite the removal process using the following common household items.

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Running warm water
  • Washcloth or towel

Simply rinse the area where the food coloring has been absorbed into the skin with warm water. Soak the washcloth or towel with the white vinegar. The high acidity of the vinegar will cause the color to transfer from your skin to the fabric. Next rinse skin to remove residual vinegar and use the baking soda to create a paste which you can gently rub over the color. This will also cause the fabric to further remove the offending stain. You can alternate these two methods until you are satisfied with the results.
